The club is flourishing, new members have joined and are enjoying our weekly activities.

A highlight in May was a Saturday trip to a local bluebell Wood organised by a member. A number of us enjoyed a day painting and drawing in this lovely setting. The bluebells were particularly vibrant this year, it was an ideal opportunity to capture their fleeting beauty.

Painting outside (en plein air) is an excellent way to experience the true colours of nature. It is very different painting from life than from a photograph. A photograph will flatten the scene making it one dimensional.  Actually being outside you can see the true perspective of a scene. However,  it is not always easy to achieve this, we have a summer programme of en plein air events where we will be painting as a group at a different location every week. There will be 2 days each week and the occasional Saturday. See our website for more information.

May has also been fun month with some unusual and experimental activities. This week we did pass the art with interesting and varied results! We used a variety of mediums and we all added to each picture. It was great fun and a sociable activity.

Every week we have a planned activity which is optional whilst some work on their own projects.

Members are of all abilities, beginners and more experienced. The meetings are very relaxed and it’s an opportunity to talk to like minded people, swap ideas and ask for advice. You don’t have to create a masterpiece!

We meet every Tuesday evening from 7pm – 9pm in the Plume Academy dining hall, Fambridge Road, at the Quaker Hall, Butt Lane during half-term holidays and on the third Thursday of the month in the Octagon, St. Mary’s Church 2pm – 4.30pm
